Gizpel's album cover for "Eyes on the Street", depicting kids playing in a street.

Our favourite indie band Gizpel have released new single “Eyes on the Street”. The track is featured on compilation album The Jakarta Connection, released by British label Sprechen.

The four-piece band have always been masters of dream pop. Previous releases opted for a cleaner beat that’s reminiscent of Joy Division. But “Eyes on the Street” takes on a new sound. The track gets rougher, synthier, and bigger. Similarly, the melody moves to the pop stylings of Weezer and Wild Nothing with an epic guitar solo and disco beat thrown into the mix. And yet, the song remains relaxed and ethereal in true Gizpel style. Self-recorded in their home studio, “Eyes on the Street” is an artful nod to the band’s evolving influences and experiences.

In their premiere on Sexy Dinosaur from Outer Space, the Jakarta-based band said the song’s lyrics reflect on “being a decent person in a rush of our political year a while back”. You can read the great write up over on SXDNS: http://sxdns.de/premiere/030-gizpel-eyes-on-the-street.
