#throwback: kings of warped Yura Yura Teikoku on “Yakosei No Ikimono 3-Biki”

#throwback to garage-psych rock trio with hair that was enviably so voluminous, Yura Yura Teikoku.

Sure, it’s a cliche to call a band underrated. But across an insane 20-year career, the kings of eclectic never broke the underground consciousness outside of their home country, Japan. They were electric, eminent and always unexpected. Singer Shintaro Sakamoto could belt out a gravelly ballad and slam down a double-time riff in one breath. What won me over though: their warped and catchy as hell repetition. Demented at times, like their 2003 single “Yakosei No Ikimono 3-Biki”, or “3 Night Creatures”. Simple yet unsettled, the video speaks for itself really.
