#throwback to the insanest jazz-punk-fusion band I’ve ever seen, Midori from Osaka (no association to the terrible green liquor). I never really thought jazz piano and an acoustic double bass had any part to play in punk music, but Midori blew my mind wide open and gave me a solid lesson to never pigeonhole music into neat categories of expectations. Their track “Meka” (released 2010) epitomises the band’s 7 year discography, mashing together lyrical pop elements with erratic punk riffs and jolting jazz rhythms to create a gung-ho party beat that rabid party dreams are made of. When others are too busy defining themselves by the genres they play or listen to, Midori’s music always said ‘fuck yes’ to doing whatever you love and want, now.
